Two Weeks Today!

It's hard to believe Wylie is two weeks old today! She had her first doctor appointment on Wednesday. She had given mama a scare, just a little one, she just seemed to sleep a LOT! So much that it was really hard - practically impossible to wake her up. Since she's breastfeeding, they thought it would be important to bring her in to have her weight checked to make sure she was gaining weight good and to check her jaundice to make sure that was clearing up.

And, to our great relief she is a perfectly healthy baby!! She weighed in at 8 lbs and measured 19 1/2 (note, she was 22 at birth, but she was pretty squirmy at the dr. office!). Her coloring looks excellent - which means she's got Joe's olive skin! So that means she has Joe's lips, Joe's feet, Joe's skin.....maybe she'll look like mama eventually!

She stills sleeps a lot, but for the most part is starting to have more awake time. Unfortunately, last night was when she decided to have some of that and kept me up from 1am to 4am! Hopefully we'll get her on a good schedule so she knows the difference between night and day (this pic is of her sleeping today...too bad she wasn't like this last night!)

Wylie was one week old on Friday! Last Monday we printed her foot on a tile and on Friday I did some more and it was already noticeable bigger!! She's so precious - hardly ever cries and is opening her eyes a lot more now. Grandma was holding her when she found her thumb all on her own! We've had mittens on most of the time, so hopefully we'll avoid the thumb sucking - we don't need her to inherit her mother's orthodontist bills! Daddy is getting good rest, while mommy gets up with her in the night, but Wylie gives him his share of duties too! Joe has had the pleasure of changing more than his share of diapers because half the time he does it, it takes 3-4 diapers for one change! She manages to continue to poop after he puts a new one down! No kidding, this has happened repeatedly! Daddy's a good sport though, just not thrilled about the diapers usage cutting into his big screen purchase he really wants before football starts! She's worth the wait though!

Thank you Aunt Shirley for the beautiful flowers!

First Family Photos

Yesterday Grandma and I took Wylie to get her weight check done and she is right on track! We also learned that if she ever really won't sleep, to put her in Joe's truck! Which is not uncommon, but I do think there's something about his in particular...she slept for 9 hours straight in it! We had a couple errands, so someone stayed in the truck with her all day and it was just about impossible to wake her to feed her! Thankfully though, last night was not miserable. I think I was so tired that it didn't really affect me, it was like I was on autopilot.

We had dinner at Grandma & Grandpa Osterkamp's house last night and got our first photos taken together as a family. We sure our proud :)

Welcome home Wylie!

We've already been having a great time with Wylie! Well, the first night home was a little rough, but the second day has gone very well. We're already working on a good schedule, so I'll let y'all know how that goes tomorrow! She's such a good baby...looks a lot like her daddy right now.

Who, let's not forget, always has something witty to say...

Today I told Wylie, "we're doing so good (nursing)" and Joe says, "I produced 164 thousand pounds of milk today, how much did you do?"

And my favorite...the apple doesn't fall far from the tree...

Last night Jerry, Beth and Nick came by to see Wylie and I was asking Jerry if he remembered how long their kids were because Wylie is 22 and that's definitely not a Patrick trait! Jerry's response: "22 - that's legal Halibut size." Oh how we love our fishermen and dairymen!

From the moment they placed her on my tummy, I couldn't believe what a joyous and amazing experience it has been to have gotten to that moment! I feel like I am walking on clouds and somehow have all the energy in the world. I am quite a bit sleep deprived, but it doesn't matter. I'd stay awake for her forever! You really don't know how much love you have in you until you have a beautiful child with someone you love. It's an unbelievable feeling and I'm so thankful for Joe and our sweet healthy little girl!

Wylie Jane Osterkamp

Well, yesterday I went to Lubbock for my dr. appt and she was pretty sure I wouldn't make it to the due date. Boy was she right! On my way home from Lubbock and had to drive through a terrible storm of high winds (60mph) torrential rains and excessive lightening! I did my best to try to stay calm, but I was pretty freaked out! Upon arriving home I continued to have cramps I had been havings since 4pm and by midnight they were turning into contractions! Poor Joe had only been alseep for an 1 1/2 when I had to wake him to help me time and figure out if I was going into labor!

Sure enough, they were averaging 30-45 seconds and 5-9 minutes apart. So being that we had an hour 1/2 drive to the hospital we decided at 3 we should get ready to leave just in case. We arrived at 5:30am in d I was taken to triage where the nurse was suspicious that I was actually in labor - she said they would monitor me for an hour or so to make sure. That lasted about 20 minutes when she finally acknowledged I really was in labor!

Now, I had a plan to attempt a natural birth - no epidural. I made it 9 hours before I gave in to the pain! Thankfully I had a wonderful experience, and after the first contraction on the epidural the nurse asked how it was...my reply "AWESOME!" I didn't feel a thing! So I wasn't moving real fast for dilating, but by noon I was ready push. Here's where I became very thankful again for the epidural. I pushed for two hours (normally shouldn't take this long) and the dr. ended up having to use the vacuum to help her out. Little Wylie was there, but my uterus was not helping me very much, neither did her short embilical cord or the fact that her head was turned and my bone space was a bit narrow. Oh, and she was 7lbs 10oz and 22 inches long!

She sure did scream when she got out though and that was wonderful to hear! She's very healthy and I felt and feel great, minus the lack of sleep I'm running on! I think I'm going on 38 hours of no sleep, 14 of which were in labor!

I hope everyone has enjoyed following along our wonderful journey!

I had intended to have my mother-in-law take a few semi-professional pics of me Friday morning...needless to say at 4am that was not going to happen so I had Joe take one more of me before we left! The pic of us is just before it was time to push and then of course is our little "W"!

not too long now...

Dr. says she doesn't think I'll make it to my due date! And I've been cramping since I left her office, so who knows...maybe she'll surprise us this weekend! Since she's so close, I am getting my mother-in-law to take a few pics of me in the morning, since I don't have many to share of my amazing belly! I'll post them tomorrow afternoon as long as I'm not in labor!

A little nervous to go to sleep now, I had a rough drive home from Lubbock today. A torrential downpour/lightening storm/very high winds hit Muleshoe just as I was passing through. Worst driving experience I've ever had! Seriously thought I might go into labor! The streets were flooding it seemed and I had to stop at the Shell station to calm down! I made it home safely though and immediately took a warm bath to relax! I do not like these West Texas summer storms that are so random!

12 days and counting

Here are some updated photos of the nursery. Still lacking some of the bedding and stuff for the walls. I'm off to Lubbock today for another appointment and will post any updates later! I promise to try to get a pic of my huge belly up too!

...even bigger!

Luckily the dress disguises the belly a little, but oh it's gettin' even bigger! Pretty uncomfortable nowadays...very hard to pick things up that I drop which happens a LOT! Sleep is very interrupted, getting up at least 3 times a night. The nursery is almost complete. Still trying to finish painting the furniture. Some of the bedding is in the mail as I type. I guess it's a race to see who finishes first now!
Everyone asks if we're ready, and the answer of course is absolutely! Joe is very excited to see his little girl and I can't wait to dress her in all the adorable outfits I've gotten!
Overall, things are all going well. Seeing the doctor every week now and so far she's still progressing well - obviously gaining some weight! Just as long as she doesn't reach 10lbs like Joe!
