Well, yesterday I went to Lubbock for my dr. appt and she was pretty sure I wouldn't make it to the due date. Boy was she right! On my way home from Lubbock and had to drive through a terrible storm of high winds (60mph) torrential rains and excessive lightening! I did my best to try to stay calm, but I was pretty freaked out! Upon arriving home I continued to have cramps I had been havings since 4pm and by midnight they were turning into contractions! Poor Joe had only been alseep for an 1 1/2 when I had to wake him to help me time and figure out if I was going into labor!
Sure enough, they were averaging 30-45 seconds and 5-9 minutes apart. So being that we had an hour 1/2 drive to the hospital we decided at 3 we should get ready to leave just in case. We arrived at 5:30am in d I was taken to triage where the nurse was suspicious that I was actually in labor - she said they would monitor me for an hour or so to make sure. That lasted about 20 minutes when she finally acknowledged I really was in labor!
Now, I had a plan to attempt a natural birth - no epidural. I made it 9 hours before I gave in to the pain! Thankfully I had a wonderful experience, and after the first contraction on the epidural the nurse asked how it was...my reply "AWESOME!" I didn't feel a thing! So I wasn't moving real fast for dilating, but by noon I was ready push. Here's where I became very thankful again for the epidural. I pushed for two hours (normally shouldn't take this long) and the dr. ended up having to use the vacuum to help her out. Little Wylie was there, but my uterus was not helping me very much, neither did her short embilical cord or the fact that her head was turned and my bone space was a bit narrow. Oh, and she was 7lbs 10oz and 22 inches long!
She sure did scream when she got out though and that was wonderful to hear! She's very healthy and I felt and feel great, minus the lack of sleep I'm running on! I think I'm going on 38 hours of no sleep, 14 of which were in labor!
I hope everyone has enjoyed following along our wonderful journey!
I had intended to have my mother-in-law take a few semi-professional pics of me Friday morning...needless to say at 4am that was not going to happen so I had Joe take one more of me before we left! The pic of us is just before it was time to push and then of course is our little "W"!
